For second season, daddy's friend and wife came from New Jersey to visit, Chris and Heather Holdren. Chris came out last year and didn't get one....and unfortunately his luck didn't change for this year. It sure was nice to have them here and get to know Heather even if they weren't successful. It wasn't because of lack of trying.
Opening day of the second elk season a family friend, Jeff, got a bull elk on his dad's ranch which neighbor's Nana and Papa Groves. He used Jake's gun and made a 650 yard first shot and a 500 yard second finishing shot. It was a really nice 5-point and made for an easy pack!
You can barely see Jake and Chris in the middle of this photo to the right of the tree taking care of the dirty work for Jeff! It was just before dark when Jeff shot it, so the boys made quick work to get it out just after dark. This photo was zoomed in on from the spot where Jeff shot from.
Back at the barn for the kill shot. Jeff was so excited. This is his first bull elk....to bad his standards are set so high. He won't want to shoot the next rag bull he sees!
Lauren, Aunt Bethany and Chris.
Mommy didn't realize that this is the only picture she got with Chris in it! Lauren had to go see the elk. She got up close to it's nose, squatted and went "ewwwwwwwwwweee!"
Back at the house after the barn trip Cousin Sydney and Lauren played with Lillie. She's a Great Pyrenees and one of 7 dogs that were at the house to pet during hunting season.
Cousin Syd and Lillie.
Aunt Emmy has a loving yellow lab Lux that is blind. But definitely Lauren's favorite. Lauren would purposely follow Lux to get smacked by her tail. She ate it up. And Lux would turn and love on her! I threatened to take her home, but Em wasn't having any of that!
