Early October, we went on our first field trip with Lauren's new preschool. It was to River Refuge Seed just south of Brownsville. One of the little boys asked "Where's the Farmer?" as we were getting started. And he was shocked to find out the farmer was a GIRL!! Yes, Farmer Melissa is in the orange. I had recently met Melissa and learned that her husband works at the same company as Jake. Now I'll know someone at work functions!
Watching the machine that actually "shakes" the seeds from their pods. They specialize in wetland seed.
Getting to feel the raw product.
They even got to help break the seed from the pods by jumping up and down on the tarps! For certain types of seeds the adults actually do this!
Same thing as the tarps but only in the buckets! I told Melissa she should start some kind of fitness class and people would pay her to do the work!
Lauren and Kaylee bringing up the rear on our hike to the top. Complete Lallygagging! Kaylee's dad and I had to occasionally yell out marching orders!
The group from the top! We made it!
The view from the top. Can you see all the little black specks? Those are ducks and geese that Grandpa stirred up from the bottom for the kiddos.

Snack time at the bottom concluded our excursion!
